These are the terms that we will be using when shipping PC/OS 11. This should clear up the confusion of whats going on here.
Users when you purchase PC/OS, you can install PC/OS on as many machines and Virtual Machines that you would like. Unlike Microsoft, Apple and others we do not restrict how many PC's on which you may use the software. If you decide to give PC/OS to a friend you may do so. They will not get support for the product unless they pay the full purchase price for the software. If you decide to include PC/OS in your LUG library, that is fine. Whomever decides to install PC/OS will not get any support options unless they pay full price. We will ship OpenOffice.org on the media, on the expansion kit you will get Lotus Symphony, and other proprietary software. That kit is non redistributable. The license is for the purchaser and no one else. You will get the Expansion Kit, Developer Kit and Multimedia Kit when you order PC/OS from us.
How will we ship PC/OS? We will ship PC/OS on 8 gb thumb drives. The kits will include the burnable ISO image, the kits and comprehensive installation guide. We are doing this for a couple of reasons. Less chance of damage during post mail, and it gives the purchaser a choice of either making a persistent USB stick, or the choice of burning it to DVD or CD. For users who purchase multiple releases, we can ship on the one thumbdrive which helps keep postal costs low. We will ship anywhere in the world but do realize that whats included on the Thumbdrive will differ. For example, if you live in the Middle East or in Asia, we cannot ship any proprietary software due to trade regulations.
So lets break down what release will be shipping and what will be included. This section will also reflect pricing. All pricing is in US Dollars

PC/OS Roots
PC/OS roots are derived from the Ubuntu distribution. Ubuntu is created and maintained by Canonical Inc. and has a vast community support system. By basing PC/OS on this outstanding base we cover two grounds, a lot of the problems and fixes are in line with Ubuntu. Many fixes for Ubuntu and Xubuntu work on PC/OS. All software compiled for Ubuntu runs on PC/OS and should anything happen to PC/OS users can still get their fixes from Canonical and maintain their distribution and makes the migration smoother. The desktop is based off of XFCE and is laid out similar to the BeOS. PC/OS does not aim to be a ground up reimplementation of the BeOS but to be as simple to use as the BeOS was. The XFCE desktop is light, modern and powerful. It can be used to power the newest workstations as well as older hardware allowing you to get the maximum potential out of your investment.
What can I do with PC/OS
It is your computer, do with it what you want. if you want to watch that Windows Media file, go right ahead. Your music files not in .ogg, thats fine by us. Do you want to watch that flash video on YouTube? go ahead.
Of course, we do encourage the open route. Open Source doesn't survive without contribution but you as users should have the freedom to do whatever it is you want to do.

We also encourage consistency. XFCE is our desktop, not GNOME, not KDE, not TWM, not PWM. of course in accordance with our first part of the mission statement the others are available for download and installation.
