Today PC / Opensystems is pleased to announce the release of NetOS Enterprise Developer Preview 8. NetOS has all the same features you came to love about Black Lab Enterprise Linux but with some added features for corporations and educational facilities reliant on a mix of web-based and locally-installed applications. NetOS Enterprise 8’s default mix is 80 percent web - 20 percent local. The benefit? A smaller core, fewer libraries and files requiring maintenance and updates - web-based apps have their own developers to perform the heavy lifting.
These best-of-breed locally-installed Linux apps were chosen by users for NetOS Enterprise :
Kernel 4.2
Google Chrome 50
The Gimp
Scribus
Dropbox
PostgreSQL 9.5
GLOM
Parole Media Player
Skype
Docker 1.11
GNOME Encryption Manager
GNOME Encryption Manager
The following web-based apps are included as well :
Google Docs/Sheets/Forms/Drawing/Presentation
Gmail/ Google Maps/ Google Play Music/ Google Hangouts
Google Apps for Business
Microsoft Office Online / Outlook Web Access (OWA)
Oracle Cloud Applications
Microsoft Azure
Slack collaboration tool
Apple iCloud access
Since this is a developer preview, known issues exist which are being addressed by our hard-working development team :
1). No dual boot with Windows 8 / 8.1 / 10. If you wish to use Windows 8, 8.1 or 10, please install this release as a virtual machine in VirtualBox, VMWare, Xen or Parallels Desktop.
2). No live session - invoke the installer directly from the splashloader menu.
3). No 4G LTE service - this feature will be included in SP1 later this year.
Our Gold release will be available June 11, 2016 so let’s get these ISOs tested for last minute fixes. You can download NetOS Enterprise 8 Developer Preview 8 from iBiblio :
